USE OF MARINE ALGINATES TO DELIVER BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS TO REDUCE DISEASES IN ATLANTIC SALMON PRODUCTION IN NORTHERN NORWAY
AF0044 Use of marine alginates to deliver bioactive compounds to reduce diseases in Atlantic salmon production in Northern Norway
Alginates are marine algae polysaccharides with the ability biodegrade in a controlled manner. This makes them an ideal compound for use as oral delivery systems in aquaculture to prevent damage from the low pH and proteolytic enzymes encountered in the fish’s digestive system. An ISA antigen preparation was successfully incorporated into an alginate oral delivery system showing high levels of inclusion and low loss during feed inclusion. Prosjektet er i samarbeid med NFH, UiT og Novartis.
